By Muhammad Hassan ·

Did you know every letter in the Quran has its own unique personality? Just like people. Today, let’s talk about Sifat—al—huroof the special qualities of Arabic letters. Sifat means the unique characteristics of each Arabic letter. These qualities help us pronounce each letter correctly. There are two types of Sifat:Permanent Sifat andTemporary Sifat.Permanent Sifat are the qualities that each letter always has, no matter where it appears. For example, the letter "ق" (Qaaf) is always "heavy" no matter what vowel it has. On the other hand ,Temporary Sifat are the qualities that change depending on the context and what vowel it has . For example, let’s consider the letter "م" (Meem). If there is a shaddah (ــّــ) on it, such as in the word "عمّ" (Amma),we have to do Ghunnah "عمّ" ,In other cases, if there is no shaddah (ــّــ) on it then we read it normally like "مٰلِکِ".
