Frequently Asked Questions
No. Qaida is for any absolute beginner, whether a young child or an adult starting fresh.
What is Noorani Qaida?
Noorani Qaida is a beginner's primer that teaches you to read Arabic the way the Quran is written. Instead of learning the language, you learn to read its letters and vowel marks correctly, one small step at a time, so you can move straight on to reading the Quran itself.
Built for complete beginners
It assumes no prior knowledge at all. Each lesson adds just one new idea, whether a new letter shape or a new vowel mark, and practises it until it feels natural.
Correct pronunciation from day one
Letters are taught with their correct sound and makhraj from the first lesson, so students don't pick up habits that are hard to fix later.

The final lessons use words taken from the Quran, so by the end students are already reading Quranic text.
The Noorani Qaida lessons, step by step
1. The Arabic letters
The Arabic letters on their own, with their names and correct sounds, including the letters English speakers find hardest.
2. Joined letters
How letters change shape at the beginning, middle and end of a word, so you can recognise them wherever they appear.
3. Short vowels (harakat)
Fatha, kasrah and dammah, the short vowel marks that give each letter its sound.
4. Tanween
The double vowel marks at the end of words, which add an 'n' sound.
5. Long vowels (madd)
Alif, waw and yaa used as long vowels, and how long to hold each one.
6. Sukoon and shaddah
The sukoon (a letter with no vowel) and the shaddah (a doubled letter), which together let you read almost any word.
7. Putting it together
Reading full words and short phrases from the Quran, with the first Tajweed rules applied along the way.
